Oh, how I do love a jumpsuit.
The ideal all-in-one outfit for comfort, ease and laid-back chic, what more could a girl want?
It wasn’t always love at first sight (or wear) however… Jumpsuits are known to be a little tricky to wear and I’ve had my fair share of wardrobe mishaps, (let’s just say jumpsuits and long torsos don’t mix) but after a wobbly start, I have learnt how to style them to suit my body shape and over the years I have grown to become a big fan of the trusty jumpsuit.
Here’s why I’ve grown to love them, how I found a style to suit my body and what to wear with a jumpsuit this summer…
Jumpsuit, Joy Store
The problem I had with jumpsuits was not wearing the right style for my body shape. I often went for tight jumpsuits with little give in them, and although they looked amazing on the model, the style just didn’t suit my short legs and long body. Fast forward to spring 2018 and I’ve fallen in love with the more relaxed, loose fitting style that seems to be everywhere this season. I found this perfect jumpsuit from Joy, and think it could be my favourite item in my wardrobe right now, which just goes to show choosing the right style can really make a difference. It fits like a dream and the ditsy polka dot print makes it super easy to wear this summer.
So how do you find the right style?
I think the neckline is the most important aspect to consider when looking for a style of jumpsuit to suit you. I often go for adjustable straps or loose fitting wraps (like this one) as I know these will compliment my longer body shape. Little cap sleeves are a revolution too, meaning this style will take me through spring and straight into autumn/winter, paired with ankle boots and a trench to keep warm.
It’s worth experimenting with leg length too. I have a few short playsuits which are great for the beach but I love the wide, culotte style for everyday wear. The cropped length with a higher, belted waist gives my wee legs a bit of a lift whist being comfy and breathable in the warmer months. I often go for a size up in jumpsuits now, as I think they look so much cooler in a little oversized and baggy style, and I can always clinch them in at the waist for a retro 80’s vibe.
How to style a jumpsuit…
Luckily jumpsuits are one of those magical pieces that can hold up in both day wear and evening wear… They look equally cool worn with ankle boots and a bright lip as they do with your favourite white trainers and top knot. I am definitely a comfort-over-style kinda girl so when it comes to a day out I’ll pair my jumpsuit with some simple high tops for a laid back look. If I need to throw on something to cover up, I find culotte style jumpsuits work best with shorter jackets such as biker or denim jackets. A cropped style like this won’t drown you and will give length to your legs whilst still showing off the jumpsuit underneath.
I like adding a pop of colour to a simple black and white outfit like this with a bright cross-body bag, perfect for a bit of spring cheer. When it comes to layering pieces, I love the idea of styling a simple white tee underneath a boxy jumpsuit or pair of dungarees. I think they look very cool, especially as I am a sucker for a slogan tee, so pairing the two is a match made in heaven…
In a few weeks time Ill be packing lots of strappy jumpsuits to wear on my holidays with crossover sandals or sliders and a pretty straw bag. Beach perfection! Summer is the best time for experimenting with prints, so be brave and try a few out. Florals help give any style a feminine edge whilst stripes and polka dots are a wardrobe classic. I love the bolder take on stripes this summer, wide candy floss pastels stripes make for a Instagram worthy silhouette.

I have two and I love them! You’re right, when you get the right fit for your body shape (and it took me a while too!) there’s no going back! They’re a pain when you need to go to the loo so I try not to drink too much but damn they’re so comfy! Love the print of this one, and the pop of colour with the bag … such a beautiful outfit!
Well said chloe, the dress looks beautiful, I am getting used to such comfy dresses on a regular basis. I even the accessories as well, they match pretty well. Thanks for sharing.
