Last month my mum and I treated ourselves to a girls weekend in London to spend some quality time together and enjoy a much needed break in the city.
After an early start and mad rush to Preston train station on Saturday morning we arrived in London just in time to check into our hotel. We booked into the Apex Temple Court Hotel on Fleet street, which was only a short walk from Temple Tube Station and the world famous Twinings Tea Shop. The hotel was really modern, clean and stylish and the rooms were surprisingly big. Our twin room had everything we needed for a short break including a huge bath which made our weekend! It was pure heaven after a long day of traveling and sight seeing to put my feet up and chill out.
Our room had a lovely view over the courtyard towards the back of the hotel, making it really quiet and private but letting lots of natural light come in. We had a busy day on the Saturday, after dropping our bags, our first stop was afternoon tea at The Ritz. This was a treat from my Mum for Christmas and I had been looking forward to it for a while, its not something we do everyday and it felt very decadent. We both arrived at around five thirty to be greeted by beautifully ornate decor and endless bouquets of lilies, pure luxury. I would definitely recommend putting afternoon tea at the Ritz on your bucket list of things to do in London. Although it seems very expensive for just tea and cakes, it’s the overall experience that you pay for, I loved the atmosphere, service and the idea of making an event drinking tea was just lovely. It was so nice to really take our time and catch up over a glass of champagne and endless supplies of macaroons.
From the Ritz we walked to the Phoenix Theatre at Charing Cross to catch the later showing of Gary Barlow’s musical, The Girls. This was my first West End Show I had seen and I have to say I loved it! It had us laughing one minute and crying the next, not to mention singing along by the end. If you are looking for a show to watch with your mum, this is the one! It had such a lovely message to the story and the cast were brilliant fun!
After a refreshing nights sleep, we headed out on Sunday morning to find some breakfast. Although the hotel breakfast sounded nice we thought it was a little pricey, so hunted down a local Bill’s Restaurant for some pouched eggs and a pot of tea. We managed to walk everywhere most of the weekend as the hotel’s location was really central and close to Covent Garden and Leicester Square, meaning we saved money on taxis and could take in some sights along the way.
We left London on Sunday afternoon after an amazing whirlwind weekend in the capital. It’s incredible what you can squeeze into 24 hours in London, I felt like we really made the most of it.
I hope you have enjoyed my little travel diary of our recent trip to London, I love visiting this beautiful city, as it different every time I go.
What is on your London bucket list?
